So we have been on our way for 5 hours. I think the risk of orca attacks have gone down. We’re halfway through the traffic separation zone. My worst thought: what if you’re hit by orcas in the TSZ and steerage is gone right in the middle with incoming cargo ships?! But mostly I’m grateful! Grateful for family and friends of course. And that my knee held up enough so far that I could go on this sail. But also my sat phone, so I can send these messages, this boat and skipper who make it all so easy and comfortable, predict wind who allows me - a meteorologically challenged geek - to fully understand and use weather forecasts, for my offshore foulies (foul weather gear) that keep me warm and dry (and allows me to go to the bathroom without taking them off!!). My Zojirushi coffee thermos that keeps my coffee warm for days (literally)! And all the other sailboat stuff that makes everything so much easier than when I sailed growing up: being able to reef from the cockpit, know exactly where you are without sextant or land in sight, not have to hand steer the whole time, keep fresh food cool onboard, take warm showers, know that if something happens help can be reached even in the middle of an ocean. The list could go on. It is really remarkable how different (better) it is!
