Portugal!

Long day today! We have decided to try to leave for the canaries Thursday morning, so needed to get to Lagos, where James can check out of Schengen, and we can top up fuel, water, food and spares. After leaving at sunrise, we had a full day of parasailor practice, sailing, motoring, tacking etc. all while trying to follow the 10-20 m depth contour (to not run aground, and not be attacked by orcas). Made (almost) and handbrake turn left out to sea on 12 ton, 45 ft Arkyla when depth jumped up from 15 to 5 m. There was nothing in the chart! James thinks it might have been a fish, which I chose to believe in since we are completely relying on the charts with very little margin for error…. At 3 pm changed from 4 knots from behind, to 22 knots from straight ahead in the span of 5 minutes. We tacked up to Pirtinoa where we have anchored. We’ll do the last hour to Lagos tomorrow morning!
