Cadiz!
Going to spend the day here in Cadiz! Because it’s an amazing city (oldest port in the world and oldest city in Europe according to my dad!), and we were tired after yesterday. And looking at the weather in the Atlantic (bad) we are in no hurry! This is why everyone says that the most important thing when sailing is not to have a schedule (and be forced to go out when weather isn’t good). And I learned that first hand (plus a lot of other things!) during last year’s sail from Gib to the Canaries…. Anyway, yesterday started out with an exciting in-the-dark departure from Gib, with a close encounter with a cargo ship. Then super strong weird currents. Then we had to go outside fishing nets into deep water (including the one we went inside last year with 1m under the keel, as it is attached to the beach this year, so not even James wanted to try going inside 🤣). Then we made the decision to make a long day out of it and sail to a nicer place (Cadiz rather than Barbate) which we later regretted when out of nowhere we had 20+ knots on our nose and short steep waves which added 4 hours to our already long passage. Anyway, here we are now and excited to explore!
