Day 14

Can’t believe it’s been 2 weeks since we left! Each day has felt so much longer than a normal day, but it for sure doesn’t feel like two weeks since we cut the lines and headed out for the race start…. Yesterday the wind dropped and we flipped around for half the day - very similar to the first days in the race. We all got quite frustrated - it’s hard to listen to the sails flapping, especially since they’re  already fraying, and also we are ready to get in to showers, food made in a kitchen not launching you and whatever you need across the space, and a full night of sleep in a bed that doesn’t move…

Overnight the wind picked up and we are starting to have fun with the squalls when they come, now when we have routine on how to handle them (we’ve changed watch schedule do that we go double at night to facilitate quick sail changes. Oh and we changed the days schedule as we are hand steering during that day to minimize stress on autopilot now when rudder dropped, and two hours is about all we can manage hand steering. It’s very physically and mentally taxing in these winds and waves and with the lovely twin headsails that are extremely prone to backwind if you loose focus for a  split second). Anyway, back to today: sailing is pretty perfect today. Still looking like we’ll come in tomorrow. Though winds are supposed to drop a lot so that last stretch might take foreveeeeeeeeeer.
