Day 2

The rest of yesterday was a reminder of that these big sails always bring unanticipated things… If you’ve read earlier blogs you know that the parasail broke on the first leg, and that I wasn’t able to bring a new one. I had bought lots of sailtape but returned most of it as the tear was too big to mend. Well good thing I decided last minute to bring the ones I couldn’t return! Last night we saw two frays on the leech (the end of the sail on the fore sail). Not entirely surprising as they have been flapping in these big waves and light winds. So then it was decided to change sails. And then we had to change course. And then the big sail on the mast got stuck. Long story short we were more sailing to northern Canada than Grenada all night. And with small sails. A bit frustrating, but night watch still amazing with moonlight, stars, bioluminescence and dancing. In the morning with day light we were able to fix the mainsail. And after lots of strategizing I was sent up to fix the rear in the front. I had safety lines but you still swing like crazy up there. Meanwhile your peeling tape backing off patches and opening alcohol swab packages to clean the sail. Quite something… but fun too .. saw my first flying fish from up there for this trip!
