Day 9 (Halfway!)
We just passed halfway this morning! 1093 miles done and 1093 to go. Mark and James talked about some year around there that was supposed to be the end of the earth, but here everyone’s spirits are lifted. I got some confetti cannons I’ve been holding on to since the summer and shot it off (a bit underwhelming), and read a sweet half-way messages from Lea and Hanna. I also took out my halfway gift to the boys: Marmite snacks (chips, crackers, cookies, nuts)….
The sailing is going well! We have the wind and seas Arkyla is built for - the ones you expect on the Atlantic. It’s a bit rolly so I spent my night watch looking at the boom to see how big the risk is that it’d dip in a big wave (there is a risk but not big enough to change sailplan James decided when I woke him up after it was just a foot inbetween… And we all slept poorly. Michael started hallucinating (!) and had to be relieved 15 minute early.
Since we are fairly confident we have less than a week to go we have upped the coffee ration to two pits a day, and I’m upping the cookie quota in the bag in the cockpit. We don’t have a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables left so it’s be juice and cans and dried goods mostly going forward. Everything is doable for less than a week!
