Half way!
We passed the halfway point a couple of hours ago. Before nightfall we had a large pod of dolphins playing around the boat for over half an hour. They are such cool animals! We sailed the parasail most of yesterday and it was so great: it really stabilizes the boat while still being fun in a spinnakery way. We took it down at night just in case, all the while wondering if that was the right call. Well today the wind picked up while sailing it, and it was quite the thing to get it down… So yes, it was the right call. Take it down before you need to, right David? 😉. We rolled out the self tacking jib afterwards, just to unwind…We’re supposed to be getting 30 knots of wind overnight with a fair bit of waves, so now James is rigging the twin headsails (I have no idea how to do this) hoping they will give more stability. Not a lot of downtime on this sail, so far…
(Note afterwards: we ended up not flying the head sails, worrying that with short high-ish waves and serious rolling of the boat, the pole or boom could hit the water and damage the rig… the stuff you have to worry about offshore…! Below is a photo from the bunk we took turns sleeping in - the least uncomfortable place on the boat. No problems falling asleep on these sails though. Takes about 5 seconds from when the head hits the pillow!)
